Is there a mileage cap?

All cars on Getaround have a mileage cap. When you rent a Getaround car, you're paying the Owner for a limited amount of mileage and use of the car. Excessive use and mileage during your trip causes additional wear on the car's body and engine, resulting in more maintenance expenses for the Owner and additional insurance risk for Getaround. We have a mileage cap and associated mileage fees for exceeding hourly and daily mileage limits to mitigate some of these risks and additional costs.

Standard Cars

In standard cars, you receive an allotment of 25 miles per hour for every hour of your trip, up to a daily total of 200 miles per day. For example, if your trip in a standard car is 3 days, then you can drive up to 600 miles in total. This means that you could drive 300 miles on the first day, and 300 miles on the third day, so long as the total is less than 600 miles.

For all miles you travel over your mileage allotment in a standard car, there is a $0.50 per-mile charge.

Specialty or Exotic Cars

Specialty and exotic cars have significantly higher costs of insurance, ownership, and maintenance than standard cars. We have a different mileage policy and fee to help cover the substantially increased maintenance costs and insurance risks associated with specialty vehicles.

In specialty or exotic cars, you receive an allotment of 15 miles per hour for every hour of your trip, up to a daily total of 100 miles per day. For example, if your trip in a specialty car is 3 hours, then you can drive up to 45 miles in total. If your trip is 3 days, then you can drive up to 300 miles in total during your trip.

For all miles you travel over your mileage allotment in a specialty car, there is a $5.00 per-mile charge.

If you plan on going over the mileage cap, inform the car owner directly and coordinate payment of fees by contacting help@getaround.com
