All cars on Getaround have a base mileage included with a trip. Additional mileage beyond the standard limits will result in additional charges as longer trips lead to additional wear and tear and maintenance needs. In the event that a renter exceeds the base mileage allocation owners will be reimbursed on a per mile basis.
Standard Cars
In standard cars, renters receive an allotment of 20 miles per hour for every hour of the trip, up to a daily total of 200 miles per 24-hour period.
Example:
A renter books for 3 full days, which allows the renter 600 miles cumulative for the entire booking. If the renter drives 250 miles on day 1, 50 miles on day 2, and 100 miles on day 3, the total mileage calculated at the end of the reservation is 400 miles. Day 1 would not incur an overage fee even though 250 miles occurred on day 1. The mileage calculation and any overage fees are based on the total mileage driven by the renter for the entire trip in comparison to the mileage cap, which is calculated based on booking times and dates.
Getaround automatically records trip mileage on all standard cars. Renters will be automatically charged for any mileage overages and Owners will be automatically reimbursed
Renters are charged at $0.50 per mile for all miles traveled over the trip mileage allotment in a standard car.
Specialty cars
Specialty cars (which Getaround defines as cars with an ACV over $75,000) have significantly higher costs of insurance, ownership, and maintenance than standard cars. We have a different mileage policy and reimbursement to help cover the substantially increased maintenance costs and insurance risks associated with specialty vehicles.
In Specialty cars, renters receive an allotment of 10 miles per hour for every hour of the trip, up to a daily total of 100 miles per 24-hour period.
Renters are charged at $5.00 per mile for all miles traveled over the Trip mileage allotment in a specialty car.
Over Mileage Reimbursement
If you notice that one of your renters went over the mileage allotment, let us know via our help center with details about the trip (must be within 90 days of the trip end date) and total mileage—and we'll take care of charging additional mileage fees and processing your mileage reimbursement.
As a reminder, for each mile over the trip allotment, we reimburse owners at the following rates:
