Getaround Autotoll™
All cars shared on Getaround are automatically setup for Getaround AutoTollTM, our electronic tolling feature.
In order for the feature to work properly on your vehicle, your license plate and VIN information must be correct and up-to-date on your car's profile. To update your license plate and VIN information:
- Access your car dashboard at www.getaround.com/cars.
- Go to your car's profile by selecting "Manage" under the image of your car.
- Navigate to "License" in the lefthand sidebar.
Additionally, please ensure that your license plate has been disassociated from your Fastrak account and that any/all electronic tolling transponders (such as FasTrak, EZPass and SunPass) are removed from your car, should you have one.
Any additional fees or charges arising due to inaccurate car information or failing to follow these instructions are the sole responsibility of the owner to resolve. Owners should always keep license plate information up-to-date via the Car Dashboard.
How it works
When you pass through a toll plaza in a Getaround car and use an electronically tolled lane, the toll will automatically be registered and paid based on the car's license plate. Electronically tolled lanes may be called FasTrak lanes, EZPass lanes, or other names, depending on your location. Owners receive a toll summary email detailing time, date, car listing name, and amount of each toll crossing. This automated email is sent out every time we bill for tolls.
To avoid paying twice for tolls, do not pay cash when passing through a toll plaza with electronically tolled lanes, and make sure that your car's license plate is disassociated from your electronic tolling account.
Where it works
If you share your car, you can drive through any electronically tolled lane at toll plazas throughout the country without needing a toll tag or transponder inside your car. There's no need to fund any electronic tolling account—every month, we'll add up your toll charges and automatically charge your credit card for you.
Autotoll™ currently works on all major tolled bridges and roads in the states and provinces highlighted on the map below. Keep in mind that toll prices vary by region, facility, and time of day.
Where it doesn't work
Autotoll will not work at any gated (non-high-speed) toll lane. These lanes require payment by cash, or the use of your own personal transponder, to proceed through them.
All toll roads listed on the map above in blue areas do not have AutoToll coverage.
A few toll plazas outside of Chicago, D.C, or L.A.. only have gated toll lanes and do not have any high-speed lanes, or they otherwise require the use of a transponder. At these locations, payment by cash or the use of transponder is required to pass through these plazas. These locations are as follows:
- I-90 Chicago Skyway (Illinois)
- Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (Virginia)
- Dulles Greenway (Virginia)
- Dulles Toll Road (Virginia)
- Powhite Parkway Extension (Virginia)
- RMA Expressway System (Virginia)
- Metro ExpressLanes on the I-10 and I-110 around Los Angeles (California)
