If your car is equipped with a “smart” key fob, Getaround will provide you with an RF pouch in which to store your car key. The RF pouch allows you to store your “smart” key fob securely inside your vehicle.
What is a “smart” key fob?
Generally, a car key is considered “smart” if it has one or more of the following characteristics:
- Comfort Access: allows the person in possession of the key fob to unlock the vehicle through close proximity to the vehicle door.
- Driver Unlock Assist: allows the person in possession of the key fob to unlock the vehicle by pushing a button on the driver side door.
- Push-to-Start: allows the person in possession of the key fob to start the car by simply pushing the start button when they are in the car. Please note that depending on the make and model of the vehicle, an RF pouch may not be required.
What is an RF pouch, and what does it do?
RF pouches are made of special materials that block communication between your car and your “smart” key fob. They are also known as “Faraday bags.”
If your car has a “smart” key fob, Getaround will provide you a specially-made RF pouch in which to store your car key. The pouch will have a velcro closure on one end to secure your key. The RF pouch will be similar to the one below:
Your RF pouch allows you to store your “smart” key fob in your car, while keeping your car safely locked and the ignition off.
When your “smart” key fob is not in an RF pouch, it communicates with your car, allowing anyone to perform the functions listed above. Leaving your “smart” key fob unprotected puts your car at risk for being accessed by someone other than you or a verified renter.
How should I use my RF pouch?
Anytime your car key is in your car and you are not actively using your car, your car key should be stored in the RF pouch we have provided. The velcro end of the pouch should be securely fastened whenever the key is not in use.
We recommend storing your car key and RF pouch in the Getaround sun visor organizer. If the car key and RF pouch do not fit inside the sun visor organizer, you can also place your car key and RF pouch in the glovebox or center console.
It is imperative that you and your renters know how and when to use your RF pouch. If you have any questions about your RF pouch, please reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
