Selecting your Protection Plan
When you book a Getaround trip you'll have the opportunity to select your desired Protection Plan. You may select from one of the 5 separate plans that are provided:
You'll need to select one of the options before you can check out, and once you've selected your plan, you'll see the Protection Plan you selected as well as the associated Damage Reduction Fee in your pricing breakdown:
Extending your Trip
Any time that you extend your trip, if you selected a Plus or Premium Protection Plan option, you will pay an additional surcharge each time you extend your trip. This Protection Plan surcharge ensures that your trip extensions are covered by the same Protection Plan you selected at checkout, and you may not opt out or modify your selected Protection Plan once your trip has started.
What is covered by my Protection Plan?
The Protection Plan you select applies only to damage that might arise during your booking. Please visit Getaround's Insurance Summary for full coverage details.
The Protection Plan does not cover or apply to other trip incidentals that might arise during your trip, such as citations, impounding, lost keys, fuel charges, or breaches to our Terms of Service.
How much does a Protection Plan cost?
Protection Plan prices vary based on a variety of booking factors, and the price is displayed during the checkout process.
Can I apply a discount or promo code to my Protection Plan?
No, at this time discount/promotion codes cannot be applied to cover the cost of any Protection Plan.
Can I switch my Protection Plan after I've booked the trip?
If you'd like to switch to a different Protection Plan option after booking you'll need to cancel your trip and then rebook the trip, selecting your desired Protection Plan during checkout. You can only change your Protection Plan before your trip has started.
IMPORTANT: Once a trip has started, you may not modify or change your Protection Plan.
Can I decline a Protection Plan?
Yes, you may declined the purchase of a Protection Plan by utilizing your own insurance. A security deposit may be applied to your rental and you will be responsible for the full extent of damages in the event your insurance does not provide coverage.
Unreported Damage
All Guests must report any car damage incurred during their trips within 48 hours of incurred, unless they have been rendered incapable of doing so. Failure to report such damage by filing a claim will result in an Unreported Damage Fine of $200. We encourage all Guests to be as proactive as possible!
